One of the primary functions of the Society has been the continuous support of the educational endeavors of deserving students, through a scholarship fund created in 1977. Each year the Society awards scholarships to qualified undergraduate and graduate full-time students. Applicants are eligible for a scholarship if they are currently attending or have been accepted by a college or university in Texas, have shown excellent scholastic performance in their corresponding field of study, and are of Hellenic heritage. High School students of Hellenic heritage who have been accepted to a University in Texas are also eligible to apply.
The Society also accepts applications from students of non-Greek descent that have demonstrated clear, strong and sustained excellence in academic studies related to Greek letters or affairs. Today, thanks to the generosity and incessant commitment of several donors, more than one hundred fifty scholarships have been awarded. Many scholarship recipients from the past have now become active members of the Society, serving on various committees, and contributing to the Society's fundraising efforts and to the Scholarship Fund.
In addition to the Scholarship program, the Society has supported many other educational programs. It has helped financially and through members' involvement the Greek Afternoon School and the Annunciation Orthodox School; it has contributed to endowments and scholarships established in the name of known professors or in subjects pertaining to Greek language and culture. The Society also supports and encourages initiatives and programs in major Texas universities that relate to the Greek heritage.
